We are familiar with the use of music for prayer and worship (Joshua 6: 1-6), but it is perhaps a leap for some of us to think of using art as valid forms of prayer beyond words. But words are certainly not the only thing God has given us to pray with, and creative and artistic people often find themselves frustrated by the limitation of words alone, they long to form or move. We believe God is stirring a new freedom to allows a diversity of more expressions of prayer.
We are ALL creative and we can all be creative through the Spirit in various ways
In the photos above, the fabric that was covered in prayers through words and drawings, then used as focus for an act of faith for healing and breakthrough. The writtenupon cloth can be moved by a dancer in ministry or worship. In these photos, the words of the song being sung are "his banner over me is love". It was a very powerful time with healing, joy and an explosion of freedom filling the room. It took many of us by surprise. One lady shared she had been a Christian for 30 years and that she'd experienced the deepest encounter with Jesus she'd ever had!
In the Bible, fabric which had been carried close to Paul was taken away, to administer prayer of healing and deliverance to others. (Acts 19:11&12)
At Blue Flame events, one of our traditions is to have a whole table of art materials ready, so that people can write or draw out their responses to God and what he is doing in the room. Sometimes we use a giant roll of paper or material with dye pens - this is laid on the floor and anyone who wishes to, can draw and write upon it.
